Imagine Harlem holds one-day street carnivals in Harlem neighborhoods to inspire a fascination in STEM careers among African-American youth. Taking from the intrigue of Disney’s Imagineers, Imagine Harlem supposes that all children follow those things that free and involve them. Specifically focused on attracting the young male population who set their sights on basketball as their best-outcome trajectory, the street fair model aims to exist within the same element as the basketball court. We are part of the influencers building the innovation legacy Harlem. @imagineharlem

Imagine Harlem is currently a semi-finalist for the Echoing Green/Open Society Black Male Achievement Fellowship.

Imagine Career

In the new gig economy, a lack of job security means that the young, educated members of the “creative class” take jobs outside their areas of expertise to pay the bills along with their less advantaged peers. For most, that means the service sector—retail, restaurants, bars. But since those gigs are competitive, and they often go to the prettiest among us, some young creatives are choosing manual labor instead.
